About the department
Services
The department of Gastroenterology is a post graduate
training department in the tertiary care referral hospital of Medical College
Calicut (Kozhikode) It provides out patient services on two days (Mondays and
Fridays for General Gastroenterology and Liver clinics on
Wednesdays. In addition, special clinics are run for Piles and Proctology on
Tuesdays and Saturdays and Nutrition clinic on Thursdays.
Location
The department is located on three floors on the extreme
north of the hospital building. The entrance to the department is through
the gate no 3 of the hospital, opposite the State Bank of India. The ground
floor houses the inpatient ward (ward no. 27), nurses duty room, endoscopy
theatres I, II and III, ultrasound room, staff room, outpatient clinic (OP no.
69), data entry room, internet server room, endoscopy observation ward and the
gastroenterology and advanced liver laboratories. The first floor houses
the Hepatology ICU, doctor's duty room and the ICU bystander's waiting area. The
second floor houses the seminar hall, library and the staff room in addition to
the Tele Medicine Unit.

On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays simultaneous
endoscopy services are available in the GE department and in the KHRWS Endoscopy
unit. Endoscopy tests are done only with prior appointment

Consultation service to other
units
The department of Gastroenterology provides consultation
service to all units in the Medical College hospital, Institute of Maternal and
Child Health, Institute of Chest Disease and the Dental College. Routine
consultation service is provided on out patient days. Emergency consultation is
provided on non-outpatient days also. There is no casualty service for
Gastroenterology department
Training
The dept of Gastroenterology is
recognized by the Medical Council of India to conduct DM course in
Gastroenterology. One student is admitted per year. The department is also
recognized for DNB training in Gastroenterology. One candidate can be taken in
